Super Sensational SLP's in Slippers

 Super Sensational SLP's in Slippers

Yes!  This is a post about TELEPRACTICE...No Way...I once thought, but the time is here..we can conduct super, sensational speech services over the internet...and in our SLIPPERS!

I have read tweets from other SLP's who have called this form of practice "impersonal"; however, that couldn't be further from the truth.  I have connected with school aged students all over this wonderful state of PA and am not feeling limited by this model of service delivery in the slightest.  Kiddos have shared their birthday gifts online right along with their favorite stuffed animals and even have introduced me to their pets and family members. We are able to print our creations and I have even mailed them to some of my youngest students.  Families are involved and helping to do oral-motor exercises and I can readily model for them exercises as well as language stimulating activities.... anything that is being addressed in therapy. Homework for speech practice is emailed right to the student so they can have carry over of the skills targeted during our online sessions.

Most of the kiddos I serve via telepractice are enrolled in cyber schools and are home schooled and some attend therapy from centers associated by their cyber schools. We meet according to the student's I.E.P.s once to three times per week for anywhere from brief fifteen minute consultations all the way up to one hour sessions.  The connection allows for webcams, so we see each other and use headsets and microphones to enhance the sound quality. The platform online allows for sharing of work sheets, apps from my iPad and computer games and activities designed specifically for our field of expertise.

I am excited to be a part of this service delivery model and highly recommend it to any experienced and well-trained SLP.  The virtual meeting room can be a fun, encouraging, exciting place to be!  As I have always said..."If speech therapy isn't fun, then find a different therapist".  Children can learn face to face or with telepractice if their SLP is engaging and knowledgeable.   It is important to be enthusiastic about the work we put in front of our kiddos, because enthusiasm for learning is contagious.  Each child is unique and as Super Sensational SLP's we need to be constantly striving to find what will help each child be the best communicator he or she can be.  Even if we are wearing our SLIPPERS!

Telepractice is a big part of my Private Practice; yet Speech Wonders, LLC also services young children, school-aged students through highschool in my home office.  Check out my "introduction" page to get more insight into the populations I serve or contact me today at (610) 563-6613 or amcfalls7@gmail.com.
